On Tuesday 4th August 2020 Beirut was rocked by massive explosion, the 3rd largest in the world after Hiroshima and Nagasaki, causing catastrophic humanitarian, economic and public health crises. 200 people have been killed so far, more than 5000 wounded and hundreds have been reported missing. The search for victims will continue and the death toll will rise. Adding to this tragedy, thousands of homes have been shattered and destroyed and 300,000 Lebanese are currently homeless.
In light of the catastrophic situation and the need to reach out far and wide, we are joining forces with our fellow Lebanese diaspora organisations LebNet and SEAL, joined by The Kuwait-America Foundation and the Jamhour Alumni (Europe + US) to form a unified humanitarian effort, BEIRUT EMERGENCY FUND 2020.
Our aim is to amplify coordination, outreach and impact. We will be working together with Qudurat and Ruwwad El Tanmeya and other Lebanese NGOs on the ground, with the support of 3QA, to ensure that the funds are disbursed in a coordinated manner to well vetted NGOs that focus their efforts on the most pressing needs resulting from this tragedy: Rehabilitation for households, Hospitals Medical Needs, Mental Health and SMEs.
